Penn State Scranton campus observing MLK Day with Jan. 18 virtual events

Penn State Scranton will honor the enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while recognizing the campus’ own commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with a virtual presentation of its sixth annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 18. The campus is also partnering with the Greater Scranton MLK Day Commission in hosting a nationally known guest speaker prior to its event.

Penn State Scranton seeks nominees for Excellence in Diversity Award

Penn State Scranton is currently seeking nominations for its Excellence in Diversity Awards, which will be presented at the sixth annual MLK Day Celebration honoring the life and work of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. The virtual ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, on Zoom. This year’s theme is “Love and Truth.”

Latino student club grows in popularity with focus on diversity and inclusivity

Since its formation last year, Penn State Scranton's Student Organization of Latinos has quickly become one of the most popular groups on campus, with a membership of 60-plus students and growing. The group co-sponsored a successful virtual celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month with a signature event featuring a guest speaker, campus alumnus and Brazilian immigrant Allan Souza, as well as a presentation by the group’s officers.

Honors program event focuses on international student perspectives

Recently, the campus honors program hosted a presentation featuring the unique cultural perspectives of four foreign-born students: Christian Toussaint, a junior originally from Haiti; Fagr Mahana, a sophomore from Egypt; Huynh (Quinn) Nguyen, a sophomore from Vietnam; and Nimrod Chapo, a freshman from Israel.
