The Ukrainian Cossack dancers have entertained audiences of all ages in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and are bringing their talents to Penn State Scranton on Wednesday, Nov. 16, for a special program titled, “United with Ukraine — An Evening of Song, Dance and Music!” The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in The View Café, located in the campus’ Study Learning Center, and is free and open to the public.
With the goal of creating a welcoming environment for its LGBTQ+ community, Penn State Scranton hosted a series of events on National Coming Out Day to commemorate LGBTQ+ History Month.
Nationally recognized philanthropist, photojournalist and speaker Saul Flores will speak at Penn State Scranton on Sept. 23 to share the story of his journey walking 5,328 miles through 10 different countries, in order to document, said Flores, how grueling and dangerous the journey of immigrants to the United States can be.
From mid-September through the end of October, Penn State units at campuses across the commonwealth will be holding events in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The unifying theme for this year’s observances is “Nuestra Música (Our Music): Identity, Culture and Resistance."
Penn State Scranton is hosting daily events this week celebrating Black History Month, including the Zuzu African Acrobats, African drumming and dancing with Erico Ansuade, and a Cultural Dialogues — Black Bazaar featuring local, Black-owned businesses and their owners.
Throughout the month of February, Penn State Scranton will be hosting a variety of events to celebrate Black History Month, which honors the struggle of African Americans as well as celebrates their history as it has shaped the current world.
During her presentation, part of Penn State Scranton's celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, civil rights icon Bettie Mae Fikes recounted her history-making activism, interspersing those recollections and stories, with choruses of songs that have inspired her and which reflected the emotions and feelings surrounding those stories.
Penn State Scranton will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Tuesday, Jan. 18, with a special speaker, "The Voice of Selma" Bettie Mae Fikes, when it celebrates its sixth annual MLK Day Celebration and Excellence in Diversity Awards.
Penn State Scranton's Center for Business Development and Community Outreach recently partnered with the city of Scranton and the Scranton Police Department to conduct the newly developed Penn State BLUE program, which provides diversity training for law enforcement officers.
