James McKenna, a psychology major, is shown presenting his research project, “Predicting drug abstinence in recovering opioid addicts: Social support, mental health, and 12-step program attendance” at this year's Undergraduate Research Fair. PSWS student Brian Escobar's research project, "The Effect of Grit on College Students’ Academic Self-Efficacy and Performance: The Role of Gender" took first place in the Social Science category at the 2017 Undergraduate Research Fair at Penn State Worthington Scranton. His faculty adviser was Dr. Raymond Petren, assistant professor of HDFS. Research is an important component for students in the major and prepares them for both their future career fields, as well as graduate school.
