Summer Bridge Program

Summer Bridge 2017

Your pathway to success!

Program Overview

Penn State Worthington Scranton offers a program for first-year students that provides tools and resources to jump start their first year on campus. Designed for students who place into English 004 and/or Math 03 or Math 04, the goals of this program are to provide students with skills for success in writing, math, and integration into life at Penn State.

You will work with instructors and peer tutors for individualized help to prepare you for your first day of classes. Here’s what previous Summer Bridge participants say about the program:

  • More than 80% agree that the program helps with adjusting to college life, understanding personal motivation and goals for attending college, and knowing how to use Penn State technology.
  • More than 90% agree that the program helped them to set priorities to accomplish what is important.
  • Nearly 85% would recommend the program to other first-year students.
  • In addition, 70% of the math students saw improvements in math placement scores; and more than 30% improved enough to place into a higher level math course.

In addition to structured instruction from faculty, additional tutorial assistance is offered by faculty and peer tutors in the campus' David and Ann Hawk Student Success Center. Students will also receive success skills help through a series of sessions on career and academic topics including motivation, study strategies for success and career planning.
