Graduate Credit Courses for Educators

The following graduate courses for educators are being offered for those who seeking career development and/or in need of satisfying ACT 48 requirements.  The courses listed below are all three credit courses offered entirely online:

Intro to Autism Spectrum Disorders: Issues and Concerns- Overview of issues, characteristics, evidenced-based assessment strategies and approaches for individuals with autism/PDD.  Offered online:  01/25/16-05/02/16

Higher-Order Thinking for Educators- Presentation of strategies, techniques, and principles of higher-order thinking which are grounded in relevant research and practice.  Offered online:  01/25/16 - 05/02/16

Strategies in Classroom Management- Managing and coping with disruptive student behavior in instructional settings. Offered online:  01/25/16-05/02/16

Teaching with Modern Web Technologies -Relates educational theory and practice to applications of the modern web, applying content from educational foundations, curriculum and research. Offered online:  01/25/16-05/02/16

Working with Families and Professionals in Special Education- Strategies for productive interactions between special educators and others such as colleagues, employers, parents, service providers, and students. Offered online:  01/25/16-05/02/16

Behavior Management Strategies for Inclusive Classrooms - Provides knowledge and skills essential for designing positive learning environments in secondary classrooms.  Offered online:  01/25/16-05/02/16

Supervision Leadership Series

These half-day workshops can benefit you, your employees and your business. They are especially helpful for supervisors, managers, human resource professionals and work teams. The fee for each of these workshops is $99, which includes all materials.  These workshops can be brought to you onsite at your company or held here at Penn State Worthington Scranton.

Supervisory Leadership:  Learn about supervisory leadership profiles, the transition to supervision, and the changing nature of supervision. We will discuss the need of the proper skills, values, ethics, and communication to be a successful supervisor.

Resolving Interpersonal Conflict:  You will learn to recognize the stages of conflict resolution and what causes interpersonal conflict. You will also analyze different approaches to resolving conflict, learning when each style is appropriate. Check in Fall 2016

Solving Problems:  You will learn useful tools for defining problems, analyzing data, and generating alternative actions are explained and applied. Learn how setting goals, using conceptual thinking skills, planning and proper evaluation can assist in problem solving.  Check in Fall 2016

Managing Time and Priorities:  In this workshop, you will learn how to set goals, determine your priorities, overcome interruptions and distractions, and avoid procrastination. We will also discuss delegation and how to efficiently run a meeting.  Check in Fall 2016

Professional Presentation Techniques

This course combines writing, communications and effective presentations techniques.  It is designed as a practical, relevant training experience to improve overall  presentation skills and encourage participants to develop presentations appropriate for their audience.  Check back in Fall 2016.

Human Resources and SHRM courses 

SHRM has established the new certification standard for the HR Profession.

Earning your SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP™) or SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP™) credential establishes you as a recognized expert in the HR field.

This course consists of 36 hours of classroom instruction, including a review prior to the new certification exam. In addition to the classroom experience, you will receive SHRM Learning System materials and access to online learning, legislative updates and practice tests.

Introduction to Revit

In this hands-on computer-aided drafting course, participants will be introduced to Revit, which is used for the creation of commercial and residential structures.  This course will include: drawing and editing tools, setting up levels, columns and column grids, drawing and modifying walls, adding doors and windows, creating floors, creating schedules, and adding detail views.

Language Courses

Spanish for Law Enforcement

This course is designed specifically for law enforcement officers to help communicate with Spanish-speakers in a variety of situations.  Learn terms, phrases, questions, and commands that can be used in basic conversations while on duty and emergency interactions.

APICS-CPIM Program Certificate

The Association for Operations Management (APICS) Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)

program will be offered through the winter and spring of 2015. Upon your completion of the CPIM program,

participants can also earn a non-credit certificate in Production Management from Penn State.

This program is being video linked with the Wayne/Pike Workforce Alliance Center in Hawley, Pa.

APICS-CSCP Program Certificate

CSCP-Certified Supply Chain Professional:   To earn the APICS-CSCP designation, candidates must meet eligibility requirements and pass the APICS-CSCP exam.  This is an instructor-led, comprehensive professional development and exam preparation program based on the current APICS-CSCP exam content material. This training program combines print materials and interactive Web-based study tools to provide a customized learning experience. 

The learning system is divided into three modules: Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Strategy, and Design and Compliance Implementation and Operations.

Pennsylvania's Real Estate Pre-licensing Education Courses

Real Estate Fundamentals (3.0 CEU's)

This course will introduce you to the language, principles, and laws that govern the language of real estate in Pennsylvania. This course and the Real Estate Practice course have been approved by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission and can be applied toward the educational requirements for the salesperson's license exam.

Real Estate Practice (3.0 CEU's)

This course is an introduction to all facets of the real estate business, including a survey of areas of specialization, with emphasis on the role of a real estate agent in residential brokerage. The course includes an examination of a real estate transaction, designed to provide you with a working knowledge of the forms and documents used along with related mathematics.

Wednesdays, September 14- November 16 -- 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Project Management

This workshop is designed to help you plan and prepare for managing a project.  You will: explore the challenges of managing a project, determine the project scope, consider budget issues, break down work activities, consider legal issues, and assess project risk among other things.  Proper planning greatly increases the likelihood of achieving proper outcomes

Supply Chain- Business Planning Series

This three-day seminar series targets productivity enhancement and competitive advantage for business owners, plant managers, directors, and planners in supply chain and manufacturing environments.

Top Down Strategic Planning: From Corporate Vision to Execution - how to execute your mission using SWOT and focusing on competitive priorities through effective performance measurement.

Sales and Operations Planning: Developing a Process that Works! - participants will learn to manage forecasts, constraints, inventory and other resources to ensure that SUPPLY matches DEMAND!

MRP in a LEAN Environment: The Marriage of MRP and LEAN - participants will learn to optimize MRP parameters for planning and apply LEAN concepts for execution.

Sign Language- ASL Beginner

Students will be taught the basic signs used in the deaf community. The instructor will not only teach words and phrases, but how to communicate through facial expressions and discuss relevant deaf culture issues. 

Spanish in the Workplace

This course covers basic Spanish words and phrases to enable co-workers to communicate more effectively in the workplace.

Spanish for Supervisors

This course, specifically for supervising professionals, can provide the tools they need to communicate more effectively in Spanish. Cultural aspects and practical phrases will be emphasized.

Cultural Awareness

This course is designed to teach participants to be aware of basic cultural differences and their effect on communication and expectations in the workplace and society.
