Penn State Hazleton hosted the ninth Eastern Regional Undergraduate Research Symposium, providing students from seven eastern universities the opportunity to display their research. More than 45 students participated in this year’s symposium.
Students, student groups, campus leaders, faculty and staff recently were honored for their contributions to the Penn State Scranton campus and local community at the annual Student Awards and Recognition dinner held on campus earlier this month.
The Penn State Scranton Chorale and Jazz Band, directed by Sharon Ann Toman, director of music and assistant teaching professor of music at Penn State Scranton, will present its Annual Spring Concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at The Theater at North, North Main Avenue, Scranton.
The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
Janet Melnick, Penn State Scranton associate teaching professor of human development and family studies, was recently honored with the 2019 Penn State Excellence in Advising Award. Melnick was one of just two recipients throughout the University system to receive the honor. She was nominated by a student, who said Melnick truly values the time she spends with her 19 advisees.
Corporate communication students from Penn State Scranton and Penn State Hazleton collaborated on a class project that resulted in the first-ever Corporate Communication Day event for the northeast Penn State campuses.
In an effort to strengthen its community outreach, Penn State Scranton recently hired Henry Matute Coello as its new coordinator of co-curricular programs. His primary responsibilities include: developing a robust campus internship/mentorship program; increasing student community service initiatives; and engaging in targeted recruiting for the admissions office.
The Penn State Scranton community recently got a firsthand look at the many talents of service dogs. On April 11, National Pet Day, the campus’ new Lending a Helping Paw Club hosted a police dog demonstration in the campus' Multi-Purpose Building.
Penn State faculty members researched Penn State students’ usage of the references that were recommended and analyzed if those references were currently being used throughout their education at Penn State to gain insight on the information-seeking behavior of students.
This year's annual research fair event takes on a new dimension with the addition of an Art and Creative Exhibition, and a new name: The Undergraduate Research Fair and Exhibition. It takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, and all are invited to attend.
