Penn State Scranton will honor the enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while recognizing the campus’ own commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with a virtual presentation of its sixth annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 18. The campus is also partnering with the Greater Scranton MLK Day Commission in hosting a nationally known guest speaker prior to its event.

Emeritus professor conducts virtual class with students at English alma mater

Since retiring from Penn State Scranton in 2017, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature Philip Mosley has maintained a busy schedule of research, writing and service to the campus via occasional event programming. Now, thanks to his former high school in Norwich, England, he recently had the chance to return to the classroom – virtually speaking, of course.

Professor Emeritus Phil Mosley teaches a virtual class at his alma mater -- Norwich School, located in the precincts of Norwich Cathedral, and one of the oldest schools in the United Kingdom. Its origins date back to 1096 when it was founded by the first Bishop of Norwich, Herbert de Losinga. In 1547, it received a Royal Charter and became King Edward the Sixth’s Grammar School. In Dr. Mosley’s day it was a boys’ school and has been co-educational since 1994.

PSUAC cancels fall and winter 2020-21 sports competition, championships

The PSUAC Executive Committee voted unanimously to cancel all intercollegiate athletics competition for fall and winter team sports during the 2020-21 academic year. The sports affected by this decision include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball, at Penn State Beaver, Brandywine, DuBois, Fayette, Hazleton, Greater Allegheny, Lehigh Valley, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Scranton, Schuylkill, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre and York.

Penn State to begin spring semester remotely, delay in-person classes

Penn State has decided to delay the start of in-person classes and transition to a fully remote learning environment for the beginning of the spring 2021 semester at all campus locations. This decision was made following extensive analysis and scenario planning given worsening virus conditions nationally and across the state indicating predictions of rising hospitalization rates in the coming weeks.

Students were outfitted with new masks, face shields, and gloves prior to every lab session, and their stations were set up to provide appropriate social distancing.
