A series of TV ads uses the slogan "image is everything." In job interviews, image is not "everything" but it is important and the way that you dress contributes to that image.

Creating the right appearance is but one of many ways you prepare for the interview - and everything you can do makes a job offer more likely.

  • Clean, trimmed head and facial hair
  • Fresh shave
  • Minimal or no cologne
  • No food, gum or cigarettes
  • Clean nails
  • Empty pockets
  • Conservative tie
  • Light shirt
  • Clean, pressed business suit
  • Matching socks
  • Shined shoes

Women

  • Attractive, controlled hair style
  • Positive attitude
  • Minimal make-up and perfume
  • No gum, food or cigarettes
  • Moderate jewelry
  • Clean fingernails, with no chipped polish
  • Clean pressed suit or tailored dress
